Last year’s highly successful multi-lingual AA Conference, the colour cover and other improvements to our Journal are just the beginning of Council’s plans to raise the profile of the Association and so enable it to serve astrology better. This is to let you know about them and how you can help. Clearly, the first step is for the Association membership and resources to grow. This is something to which every member can contribute. Do show your friends and colleagues the new Journal and encourage them to join. Copies of the newly designed membership form are available from the AA Office (office@astrologicalassociation.com or phone +44 (0)20 8880 4848)
We are now in the process of upgrading the AA website. As well as a new look and easier navigation, you will soon find: extra information and extracts from magazine articles, all regularly updated; important links; an additional chart database from Frank Clifford (available soon); tapes, membership and conference bookings to purchase on line.
To give the Association full independent identity in the 21st century, soon we plan to finalise the transfer our status to a company limited by guarantee. This will enable it to own / manage property and take on other responsibilities in its own right. We are working on a plan to purchase a property and will publish a coherent business plan to support an appeal as soon as possible. How substantial this can be will depend on base funding, as well as donations and pledges in response to the appeal. So we can prepare the best realistic plan, we would welcome any informal approaches, major offers, suggestions and advice from members and other friends of the Association.
At present, we can afford no more than a small office. While this could be an important start for the Association in the property market, it will not meet one of our prime objectives – to establish The Astrological Library. We already have a fine range of books and more are offered regularly, but we are held back by not having the premises, within which the library can grow and be made available. With the library at its heart, a full Astrology Centre could include exhibition, lecture and consultation rooms, a media centre and offices. With this as a sure foundation, astrology could at last be a position to stand up for itself in modern society.
Do think about ways you can help and contact Wendy Stacey, who is coordinating this, Roy Gillett, or any Council Member you are in contact with.
Below is an illustration of the accumulated AA building fund. We are seeking donations whereby one degree equals £1000. Please help us to reach our goal so we can provide our centre for you.
We would like to thank Gerald Pitchforth who kindly bequeathed £5000 to the AA last year. The council decided to put Gerald’s donation into the main account of the AA but has allocated 5 degrees of the zodiac from AA funds in his name. Gerald was a long standing member of the AA and supported conferences and AA initiatives over the past forty years.
